Modern Kokeshi – Young Samurai Motif
1. The origin of modern Kokeshi
Originally simple wooden dolls offered in the hot springs of northern Japan, kokeshi have become, through modern kokeshi ( sōsaku kokeshi ), true works of art. Each artisan projects a personal vision, mixing culture, emotion and free style. They often evoke scenes of Japanese life, ancestral symbols or emblematic figures, such as samurai.
2. The appearance of the Kokeshi – Young Samurai
This kokeshi represents a young samurai , full of promise, honor and determination. He wears a green kimono , a color associated with youth, quiet strength and balance. His outfit is simple but marked by a proud presence , reinforced by the precision of the details and the upright attitude of the character.
At his side rests a katana , symbol of the code of honor (bushidō), and his hair is styled in the warrior tradition, with the chonmage , the famous cut raised on the crown of the head. The expression on his face is serene but focused, evoking discipline and wisdom in the making. Young Samurai embodies the spirit of the warrior in his youth: ready to learn, to protect and to rise .
